We are all trying to do more with less. Pharmacy departments are looked to be leaders in ensuring medication safety in our health systems. Pharmacists need to be leaders by tracking, creating, and implementing safe medication-use systems at their facilities.

To lead improvement efforts, pharmacists must collect information to then act upon. It is challenging to put systems in place to collect and analyze medication errors and near misses. By taking some simple steps, UHS has engaged its employees to be active and ongoing in creating a safe medication use system.
